Matt Carmichael

Matt Carmichael was signed by Colin Murphy in August 1989. At the time he was planning to join the Met Police after having previously served in the British Army, but Colin offered him a professional contract and his career changed track. He was initially used as a striker and scored on his debut against Scunthorpe United but later converted to centre back. He was voted the supporters player of the season in 1991-92 and made over 150 first team appearances before moving on to Scunthorpe in July 1993. Matt later played for Preston, Mansfield, Doncaster and Darlington. Matt is vice chairman of the Former Players Association.

Chris Moyses

Chris Moyses was a full-back who made his first senior appearances for City as a 16 year old when he played in three Football League Trophy games in August 1982. Chris, who was born and bred in Lincoln, initially joined the Imps under the Youth Opportunities Programme and progressed to becoming an apprentice and then signed as a professional. He made his Football League debut at Millwall in May 1984 and featured in the following three games only to be released at the end of that season. Chris went on to play for Halifax and was later at clubs including Grantham, Spalding, King’s Lynn and Bourne. He returned to the Imps in May 2011 when he became involved in the youth team. In November 2014 Chris became caretaker manager and the following month took over as manager. He began the rebuilding of the team before leaving his role in May 2016 having signed several of the players who earned promotion back to the Football League the following season.

Steve Garfoot

Steve Garfoot was a youth team player for the Imps appearing both for the Under 18s and the reserve team as an attacking player in the early 2000s. He later moved on to play for Bourne Town and continues to live locally. 

Steve played for the FPA team on several occasions and is a member of the Committee.

Grant Brown

Grant Brown made a record number of appearances during his lengthy career with the Imps having first signed on loan from Leicester City in August 1989 as part of the deal which saw Tony James sold to the Foxes. Grant immediately established himself as a regular in the back four and although he went back to Leicester when his loan ended in November 1989, he returned soon afterwards and signed on a permanent basis for what at the time was reported as a record fee paid by City of £60,000. Grant went on to make over 450 senior appearances for the Imps and was given a testimonial in 2000 when Middlesbrough visited Sincil Bank. He was voted Player of the Season in 2001-02 which was his final season as a player. Grant later returned to take charge of City’s youth team and was also first team assistant manager for a time and on three occasions served as caretaker manager. He finally left Sincil Bank in the summer of 2016.

Danny Bent

Danny Bent was a young striker who was a trainee with the Imps at the end of the 1990s. He appeared regularly in the youth and reserve team and also played for City in the Lincolnshire Cup. He was on the bench for the first team on several occasions before moving on to play for Doncaster Rovers. He later appeared for Lincoln United and Moorlands amongst other local clubs.

Mark Camm

Mark Camm signed for the Imps from Sheffield United in August 2000 having previously played on trial for City’s reserve team in the previous season. Mark, who captained the Blades reserve team while at Bramall Lane, appeared at right back and in midfield during his four years City. He moved on to play for King’s Lynn and was later at clubs including Boston United and Worksop Town.

Ben Dixon 

Ben Dixon was a winger who came through the Imp’s youth team set-up making his first team debut while a trainee. He became a full professional in November 1992 and made further appearances over the next four years before being released at the end of 1995-96. Ben had a couple of seasons with Blackpool and then played in Singapore. He went on to play for clubs including Whitby Town, Lincoln United and Grantham.

Darren Huckerby 

Darren Huckerby was a prolific scorer in City’s youth team before being promoted to the first team in March 1994 marking his debut by scoring the winner at Shrewsbury just five minutes after coming on as a substitute. He made rapid progress during his time with the Imps and was still just 19 years old when he was sold to Newcastle in late 1995 for a reported £500,000 fee. Darren went on to have a long career in top level football appearing for Coventry, Leeds, Manchester City and Norwich and played for the England B team. He finished his playing career in the USA with San Jose Earthquakes winning Major League Soccer’s newcomer of the year award in 2008.

Red Imps Community Trust’s newly appointed Youth Board Member Tom Baker,  presented Connor McGrandles with the Trust Player of the Month Award for November. Tom, along with Jake Ingram also pictured, are currently studying community football community coaching degree through the Club 
Foundation.

Gavin Gordon
Gavin Gordon was a striker who made his senior debut for Hull City just two months after his 16^th birthday and went on to make regular first team appearances for the Tigers before he was sold to the Imps in November 1997 when he was still just 18 years old. In his first season he helped City win promotion and was a first team regular. In 2000-01 he scored 10 goals by early December and was the sold to Cardiff City for a six-figure fee. He later played for Notts County. Gavin is chairman of the Former Players Association.

Tony Cunningham

Tony Cunningham was a powerful striker who was brought to Lincoln by Colin Murphy from non-league club Stourbridge in May 1979. He made an instant impact on his debut in a League Cup tie against Barnsley and marked his first City game with a goal. Tony remained a regular first team player during his three full seasons at Sincil Bank and finished as leading scorer with 15 league and cup goals in 1981-82 when the Imps narrowly missed out on promotion to second tier football. He was sold to Barnsley in September 1982 and and made 40 League appearances for the Reds scoring 11 goals before joining Sheffield Wednesday in November 1983. Tony later played for clubs including Manchester City and Newcastle United making a total of almost 500 senior appearances before ending his career with Wycombe Wanderers. One of his sons Karl later also played for the Imps.

Derek Bell

Derek was a prolific scorer in local football netting over 200 goals in 1971-72 as a 15 year old playing in schools football and on Saturday afternoons in the Boston League and Sundays in the Lindsey and Kesteven Youth League before joining Derby County as an apprentice. He moved on to play for Halifax Town and Barnsley before he was signed by City in November scoring on his debut in a 3-0 home win over Hartlepool. Derek spent four years at Sincil Bank and continued to score regularly despite the fact that his appearances were restricted by injury. He was leading scorer in 1982-83 with 29 league and cup goals including three hat-tricks. He left Sincil Bank in the summer of 1983 and went on to play for Chesterfield and Scunthorpe.

Terry Curran

Terry Curran was an attacking player who mainly appeared as a winger during his lengthy football career. He began with Doncaster before moving to Nottingham Forest. In total he played for 12 Football League clubs including Everton, Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, making over 400 Football League appearances.

Tommy Graham

Tommy Graham was a forward who signed for Barnsley from Aston Villa in 1978 and made 38 appearances for the Reds before moving on to join Halifax Town. He went on to play for Doncaster, Scunthorpe and Scarborough before finishing back at Halifax making almost 400 Football League appearances during his career.
