WALKING FOOTBALL

Our Trust’s official charity partner for 2024, Lincoln City Foundation, has developed an incredibly impressive range of initiatives for the benefit of the entire community, including Lincoln City fans. We highlight here another of those initiatives: Walking Football.

What is Walking Football?

All of us will remember the joy of kicking a ball around as a child and many will have continued playing into adulthood. There is however a limited shelf life for traditional football: how many people are still lacing up their boots by the time they reach 50?

Walking Football has changed that: running is forbidden! Instead of older players becoming too slow to compete, football is slowing down, enabling them to continue enjoying the sport that they love. Walking Football is renowned for its social aspects and a tremendous sense of camaraderie. Participants experience a great sense of reward and personal achievement. There are many physical and mental health benefits.

All sessions are coach-led. Player development is helped by increasing fitness and tactical awareness of the sport through drills, challenges and simply playing. All participants are also given regular opportunities to represent Lincoln City in competitive matches/tournaments.

Where do Walking Football sessions take place and what do they cost?

It’s £3 per session, all of which are held on the 3G pitch at the LNER Stadium.

When do Walking Football sessions take place?

Sessions for men who are at least 18 years of age are held every Wednesday from 6.00pm to 7.00pm and every Thursday from 10.00am to 11.00am.

Sessions for women who are at least 18 years of age are held every Wednesday from 7.00pm to 8.00pm and every Saturday from 9.00am to 10.00am.

Do places have to be booked for Walking Football sessions?

No: you can simply turn up on the day. Arrive dressed ready to play, but do not wear studded boots. Bring some water, to keep hydrated.

Places for men’s Wednesday sessions can however also be guaranteed by advance booking via https://www.lincolncityfoundation.com/menswalkingfootball

Similarly, places can be guaranteed for women’s sessions by booking in advance at https://www.lincolncityfoundation.com/womenswalkingfootball.

How can donations be made to help Walking Football?

There are numerous ways to support the Foundation financially, including before all home games via a collection bucket that can be found in the Trust’s pod in the University of Lincoln Fan Village. Donations will support the ongoing delivery of Walking Football sessions, including equipment and venue hire: they will also help with marketing the sessions, to welcome new players to the sport and into the Lincoln City family.
