Trevor Swinburne 

Trevor Swinburne began his long goalkeeping career as an apprentice with Sunderland in the late 1960s and finished it with the Imps 20 years later. During his time at Sunderland he was understudy to Jim Montgomery and made several first team appearances before moving on to Carlisle United in the summer of 1977. Trevor made over 250 first team appearances for Carlisle during his six years with the club and was an ever-present in their team which won promotion to the old Second Division in 1981-82. He then played for Brentford and Leeds United before signing for City in February 1986 as a replacement for Stuart Naylor. Trevor made regular appearances for the Imps until retiring in the summer of 1987. He was the first chairman of the Lincoln City Former Players Association when it was formed in 2017 and was a key figure in developing the organisation and has recently returned to the committee.

Gavin Gordon

Gavin Gordon was a striker who made his senior debut for Hull City just two months after his 16th birthday and went on to make regular first team appearances for the Tigers before he was sold to the Imps in November 1997 when he was still just 18 years old. In his first season he helped City win promotion and was a first team regular. In 2000-01 he scored 10 goals by early December and was the sold to Cardiff City for a six-figure fee. He later played for Notts County. Gavin is chairman of the Former Players Association and covers Imps games as a match summariser for BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

Our guests include three players who have appeared for the Former Players Association team in charity matches during the last couple of seasons. Steve Garfoot was a youth team player for the Imps appearing both for the Under 18s and the reserve team as an attacking player in the early 2000s. He later moved on to play for Bourne Town and continues to live locally. Steve has played regularly for the FPA team and is a current member of the Committee. Lee Welburn was also a former youth team player at Sincil Bank being a trainee between 2006 and 2008. He appeared regularly in the U18s in the Youth Alliance and also in the FA Youth Cup. Garry Doran has shared the goalkeeping duties in recent games. He previously played locally for Clubs including Sleaford Town and is a goalkeeping coach.

We also have Pat Douglas as our guest. Pat is a former professional with Shrewsbury Town. He made his senior debut for the Shrews in November 1968 as a 17 year old apprentice and made further first team appearances before being released at the end of the 1969-70 season. He later played for several non-league teams including Oswestry Town. Pat has continued to be involved in football throughout his life and in recent years has organised walking football at Collingham FC.

In addition we have two members of the Lincoln City Women’s team. Deejy Bensiah and Suzannah Robinson have both played regularly this season for the Women’s Development team which is currently in fourth place in the FA Women’s National League Reserve Midland Division. They are joined by Steve Schofield who is physio for the Women’s team.
